Business leaders from all industries invited to celebrate launch of HullBID Fashion Week
19 April, 2013

A Hull-born fashion designer who has worked with global icons Lady Gaga and the Rolling Stones will appear at a breakfast networking event for businesses to celebrate the launch of Hull BID Fashion Week.

Lara Jensen, a milliner and costume designer, who has worked in film and on catwalks across the globe, will give a talk at the Make Fashion Your Business event at Hull Truck Theatre, in Ferensway, city centre.   Lara, who has also worked with international style icon Karl Lagerfeld, will appear at the celebration event which is being hosted on Tuesday, April 30, starting with breakfast at 7.30am and followed by a mini fashion show.   HullBID Fashion Week is funded by the Hull Business Improvement District (BID), the organisation charged with supporting member businesses while helping improve the trading environment.   HullBID’s city centre manager Kathryn Shillito said: “HullBID Fashion Week 2013 promises to be the biggest and best yet. We have an incredible amount of events in the pipeline celebrating all things fashion in the city.

“The Make Fashion Your Business event gives members of the business community, from all industries, a chance to come together and celebrate the launch of this exciting week-long celebration of style.   “Lara Jensen has worked with some incredibly high profile clients at the cutting edge of fashion, and best of all she is from Hull. Lara has succeeded in one of the most competitive industries and she is a real success story for the city.   “She will be talking to business leaders from across the region about how she succeeded in what is one the toughest industries in the world and we are very much looking forward to getting a real insight into her story.”

Make Fashion Your Business will also feature a mini fashion show of the latest work wear trends for both men and women.   Meanwhile, Jim Harris, centre manager at St Stephen’s and HullBID’s Chairman, will host proceedings. He will talk about the city’s emerging profile as a fashion destination and the commercial appeal of Hull to national fashion brands.   The breakfast event will be the precursor to the week-long series of events leading up to the Fashion Fest Finale at Hull Paragon Interchange on Saturday, May 4th. The event will run from 11am to 4pm and will feature live fashion shows in the train station, hair and beauty demonstrations, as well as fashion and accessories.
