Princes Quay gets behind Purple Tuesday
Princes Quay retailers joined the centre’s initiative last week to highlight and raise awareness of the customer experience for disabled people by supporting Purple Tuesday.
The revenue generated, known as the ‘Purple Pound’, is estimated to be worth £249bn nationally each year. With a keen focus on Purple Tuesday throughout the centre, retailers backing the event reported a boost in sales on the day, with revenue across the centre up by 7.5%, whilst the Outlet Level, where activity was concentrated, saw a huge increase of 25% on last year’s sales.
Centre Manager John Magee said: “We wanted to raise awareness of the things we provide all year round for our customers, whatever their needs, and Purple Tuesday is the perfect opportunity for us to highlight the specific services available.
“With more than 13 million disabled people in the UK – a fifth of the population – we know how important it is for our centre to meet their needs, which is something we focus on all year round, not just on Purple Tuesday.”
The centre celebrated the day by hosting a Chat & Chill purple zone on Outlet Level 3, which included ping pong sessions, a purple tombola, and selfie area.
With so many great initiatives already in place, Princes Quay took to social media to promote and raise awareness of these. Vue Cinema offer autism friendly screenings as well as showings suitable for those who are hard of hearing and Superbowl UK Hull have lanes which are fully accessible for wheelchair users. Princes Quay also has mobility scooters and wheelchairs available for hire in the customer support unit.
Shoppers have responded extremely well to the centre’s disability-friendly approach by sharing their thoughts on social media:
“Absolutely brilliant, really impressed, loads of shops, easy access and flat, no hills, so easy to get round in a wheelchair.”
“Parking for the disabled good.”
“Me, my hubby and son love coming here. The staff are always welcoming, they are fantastic with my son who is autistic, they always ask about him.”
