St Stephen’s shopping centre is crowned Retailer of the Year
15 October, 2014

It’s official: Hull has the region’s best retailers!

St Stephen’s shopping centre has received one of its biggest accolades to date when it was crowned Retailer of the Year in this year’s Regional Chamber Awards 2014 for the Bridlington and Yorkshire Coast.

The Centre was up against fierce competition but raced ahead with its strong footfall results, exceptional customer service and green credentials.

Tony Van der Vliet, Deputy Centre Manager at St Stephen’s was presented with the award at the Chamber ceremony on 10th October. Tony says: “We were very proud to win this award, especially because it is all encompassing and recognises everything we do within the Centre to make it the very best retail and leisure destination in the region.”

Over the past six months, footfall in the Centre has increased by 16%; dwell times are up to 76 minutes and sales have increased in some stores by more than 15%.

The Centre remains at least 98% year-on-year despite the fact that nationally around 1 in 8 shops is standing empty.

In 2013, St Stephen’s was also crowned the UK’s Retail Destination of the Year in the industry’s Oracle Retail Week awards.

Geof Humphrey of Nexus Executive Services Limited, the event organiser on behalf of the Chamber says: "A proven favourite in the regional retail market, the high quality ambience and stylish experience that St Stephens Shopping Centre provides makes them a worthy winner of the best retail business of the year 2014."
