Hull and East Riding Museum re-opens

One of the city’s most popular museums has reopened after weeks of closure due to heating failure.

Hull & East Riding Museum in High Street shut in mid-December due to problems with its boiler and other parts of the heating system.

Now work has been carried out to allow the museum – which displays exhibitions from majestic mammoths to Saxon invaders – to reopen to visitors.

Additional work to ensure all areas of the museum can consistently hold temperature should be completed by this weekend. This work will not require further closures.

A new system will be fitted in the near future, which could require a short closure. Follow @Hull_Museums on Twitter to find out when the work will be carried out.

The attraction, part of the city’s popular Museums Quarter, allows visitors to experience 235 million years of history, including a walk through an Iron Age village, entry into a Roman bath house and the chance to see a mysterious crew of wooden warriors.

Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture & Leisure, said: “It is great news that Hull & East Riding Museum has reopened to the public. This fantastic museum displays some of the city’s most interesting exhibitions and I would recommend that those who have not yet visited to now take the opportunity to do so.”

Hull & East Riding Museum is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm, and Sunday from 11am to 4pm. For more information, call 01482 300300.
