St Stephen's wins two industry awards
30 November, 2015

St Stephen’s may be the leading retail and leisure destination in Hull, but the shopping centre has proved that it can also take up the leadership reins against some of the biggest organisations in the UK.

St Stephen’s, with Incentive FM – the centre’s facilities management company – were crowned winners in the national PFM (Premises and Facilities Management) Awards this month– beating hundreds of entrants including big names Vodafone, British Gas and other finalists Marks & Spencer and Ladbrokes.

Recognised for its exceptional environmental management results, the awards celebrate the growing role of service providers working in partnership with retailers.

The coveted award was swiftly followed by another spectacular win for St Stephen’s at the national Green Apple Environment Awards for commerce and industry. The Green Apple awards recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.

Shawn Chapman, facilities manager at Incentive FM, St Stephen’s said: “We’re over the moon to be recognised on a national and international scale for our efforts to improve the performance of the Centre and for the results we’ve achieved. Both awards are incredibly well-regarded in the industry. It’s not just a win for the Centre but for the Hull and Humber region as a whole to be up there and beating some of the biggest organisations in the UK.”

Over the past four years, St Stephen’s has reduced its water usage by 75%; energy consumption by 35% and diverted over 2,408 tonnes of waste from landfill, saving 675 tonnes of Co2 emissions, 35 million litres of water and almost £186,700 on energy, water and waste costs.

But the Centre has continued to strive to be even better and has implemented additional processes and systems which have led to further environmental improvements in the last 12 months; general waste figures have reduced by 38.96% since August 2014 and food recycling has increased by 13.8%. A new Tennant Orbio water system has also replaced 63% of chemical cleaning products as well as other innovative equipment that is continuing to drive down Co2 emissions and improve sustainability results.
