Improve safety and security within the City Centre

The fear of crime and a sense of feeling unsafe can have a greater affect than the reality of crime. The BID proposes a series of activities to make people feel safer within the City Centre. Higher visibility policing will be achieved through the following:

• Retain the highly effective BID Support Officers who help patrol the City Centre.  In addition to helping prevent crime by liaising closely with the Police and the PCSO's, the Officers also provide effective crime reduction advice to businesses and are often a first point of contact.  The Officers are the BID's 'eyes and ears' on the street and because of this, are able to react quickly and coordinate remedial maintenance work including graffiti removal and painting.

• Co-ordinated use of the Police, PCSO’s and Support Officers improve safety in the City Centre.

• Support Officers are linked to the Police, CCTV and a radio system.

• Higher visibility policing of the City Centre
