Marketing and Events
“These are challenging times and the shopping centres and Hull BID are doing our best to overcome that by putting on our own attractions.” - Manager, Prospect Centre.
Hull BID is at the heart of many of the events that have attracted thousands of visitors into the city centre in recent years.
In addition to supporting such major festivals as the Clipper Weekend and the Freedom Festival, Hull BID has organised its own activities to keep the city on the entertainment map.
The Hull BID Fashion Week in April 2011 brought the city centre’s mix of national brands and independent stores together in a celebration of fashion and style. Fashion Week 2011 finished with a grand finale... a fashion extravaganza at the iconic Holy Trinity Church which allowed over 25 independent businesses to showcase their latest trends. Footfall into the city increased by around 30,000 on this particular weekend and businesses will have benefitted directly from this.
The summer of 2011 brought another Hull BID innovation with the YUM! Food Festival. YUM! celebrates local food and local talent with chef demonstrations, a tasty tent (many of the exhibitors were BID area businesses) the Copper Saucepan Young Chef Award final, a continental market and a Jazz night. In 2011 Yum! worked in partnership with the Hull Jazz Festival combining the best in live music and good food and drink.
The 2011 Christmas campaign is currently underway. Working with our partners Hull City Council the city will come alive with a package of activities and entertainment aimed at attracting families into the city centre. Late-night shopping on a Thursday will see city centre shops opening until 9pm* (*this may be subject to change). Look out for more details on Facebook.
All the activities are featured on the new website - www.eatdrinkenjoy.co.uk- a communication tool that promotes leisure, entertainment and dining opportunities within the city centre.
Hull BID is dedicated to supporting member businesses with their communications and can offer assistance with press releases and media relationships as well as space in our quarterly newsletter, features on our website and coverage in our E-News, Facebook and Twitter campaigns. All at no cost to businesses.
The Store Manager at Debenhams in the city centre, said Hull BID has helped her business in a number of ways.
“Hull BID has helped us pass on information, provided space in the city centre to promote our big trading events and organised monthly meetings where we can find out what’s going on around the city. My trade at the moment is particularly strong and is improving and we’re definitely benefitting from Hull BID.”
