Excitement Mounts For YUM!

26.07.2010

Excitement is growing as the countdown to the first ever YUM! Food Festival draws to a close.

Much attention will be on the Chef’s Theatre in Princes Dock Street which will be open on every day of the event from Thursday 29th July to Saturday 31st, with cooking demos and other workshops taking place hourly, starting at 10am on Thursday with one of the area’s top restaurants, Cerutti’s head chef giving a masterclass in fish preparation and cooking. Further demonstrations including Indian food, vegetarian dishes, traditional English cooking and dessert specialities.

One of the star attractions in the Theatre will be owner and head chef of Michelin starred restaurant Pipe and Glass in South Dalton James MacKenzie. James will be showing people how to cook some of his favourite dishes using local produce and said he was looking forward to taking part in the event:

“It’s fabulous. It’s great for Hull and it’s great for the area to show off the kind of local produce we use every day,” he said.

Also taking place in the Chef’s Theatre on Thursday evening will be a Comedy Night, ‘Meat and 2 Veg’. This event features nationally known comedians including Jo Caulfield and Stuart Goldsmith and promises to be one of the highlights of the week.

Visitors will also be able to sample local produce at the Tasty Tents in Princes Dock Street, but will also be able to taste food from further afield with the return of the ever popular continental market which takes place along King Edward Street. Children can also take part by decorating cookies and cakes at the Bitesize Kids Tent in Trinity Square.

City Centre Manager Kathryn Shillito promised it would be an event to remember:

“This whole event is building up to be a culinary feast and there will be something for all types of food lovers.”

She also emphasised the importance of including local businesses in the event saying:

“We have made special efforts to work with local food and drink businesses, encouraging them to take part at no cost to themselves, but allowing them a platform to promote their businesses.”
