Writing on the Wall for Grafitti Taggers
08.07.2010Hull BID has been working tirelessly over the last three years to remove thousands of pieces of graffiti to deter and detect the ‘taggers’ who target the city centre.
Hull BID has been working closely with Humberside Police by recording, identifying and removing graffiti tags which exceeded 2,200 last year. A similar level is anticipated this year with nearly a thousand already removed to date.
Hull BID’s City Centre Manager Kathryn Shillito explained: “Cleanliness and street maintenance are both major elements of the work of t Hull BID and we are delighted to have been so successful in removing so many tags.”
Hull BID has a dedicated maintenance man for the city centre and part of his role is the responsibility of graffiti related issues.: Martin Foster patrols around the Hull BID area on a daily basis, detecting and removing any new tags from buildings, public spaces and businesses.
“Martin often starts his patrols early in the morning before most businesses have opened, so many do not even know they have been targeted. We also operate a rapid response services so city centre businesses can contact us directly with any issues” added Ms Shillito.
The work of Hull BID focuses on the city centre, but welcomes and supports the city wide ‘Hull Against Graffiti’ initiative which raises the awareness of graffiti and aims to promote a cleaner city.
City centre businesses are welcome to call Hull BID’s rapid response services in relation to cleaning and maintenance issues on 01482 611888.
