Autobiographies on Menu at Literary Lunch
03.03.2010George Street based Browns Books is once again hosting its popular Literary Lunches with guest speakers Joe Longthorne and Pauline Prescott. The event takes place on Wednesday 24th March at the Willerby Manor Hotel and will see both authors talking about and signing copies of their new books.
Joe Longthorne’s is one of the UK’s best known live entertainers book and this is his official autobiography. In it he leaves no stone unturned as he relates his colourful life from his childhood days in the travelling community in Hull to TV stardom and the heights of Las Vegas.
Written with journalist and friend, Chris Berry, the publication coincides with Joe's 150 date world tour, which commences with 35 dates in 60 days across the length and breadth of the UK in spring 2010. The book is published in hardback priced £16.99
Smile Though Your Heart Is Breaking is Pauline Prescott’s life story. From the death of her father to her brother’s life-threatening illness, little ‘Tilly’ Tilston experienced much sadness in her teenage years. Then, at sixteen, she found herself pregnant. Sent to a former convent, Pauline gave birth to a son, Paul, in 1956. It was three long years before she was finally made the difficult decision to give him up for adoption, but with characteristic optimism and verve she hoped for a brighter future. As a young hairdresser, she fell in love with John Prescott, a dashing ship’s steward and union activist, never imagining that one day she’d be married to the Deputy Prime Minister – and know all his speeches off by heart!
Tickets for the lunch are now available from Brown’s bookshop in George Street priced at £29 each, to include a glass of wine on arrival, three course lunch and a discount for books purchased on the day. Or please contact the event organiser Mike Ulyatt on (01482) 657200.
