Painting for Sport Relief

25.02.2010

One of Hull’s finest private art galleries will be playing its part in raising money for charity during the forthcoming Sport Relief week.

During the week of
Monday 8th March to Thursday 11th from 10.30 - 2.30 local artist Peter Bell will be painting a sport inspired painting in full public view at Myton Gallery in Hepworth’s Arcade. The finished framed painting will then be on display for a further week until Saturday 20th March, giving time for people to bid, with all proceeds going to Sport Relief. In addition, any sales of Peter’s other sporting pictures on display in the gallery will see 20% of the sale price going to the charity.

“Peter has a strong portfolio of sports pictures, many related to sporting sides in the city, so Sport Relief seemed a great opportunity to raise some money and give something back to the community,” says gallery owner Charlie Newham.

People interested in placing a bid can do so in 3 ways, in person at the Myton Gallery, over the phone on 323743 or by registering bids via e mail at
sportrelief@mytongallery.co.uk.

This is not the first time that Charlie has worked with Peter in raising funds for charity.

“We tried something similar for Children in Need, with Peter painting during the week in the shop window. It created a lot of interest from passers by as well as raising the profile of the arcade. The final painting sold for £400, all of which went to charity.”

Sport Relief is an annual national event taking place this year between March 19th-21st. People are invited to organise their own sporting events or take part in running a mile for charity. The Run a Mile in Hull starts from Queen Victoria Square on Sunday 21st March with a choice of distances from 1 mile, 3 miles or 6 miles. Tickets to enter cost £2 for children and £5 for adults with individual’s fundraising efforts on top of this.
