St. Stephen’s has further developed its support to the community by giving The Gerard School of Football £5,000 with a view to helping the academy grow and offer more places for local children.

The Gerard School of Football (GSF), located at the University of Hull, is one of the first private enterprises of its kind in Hull. Set up by full time student Gerard Jones, the School of Football delivers specialist football and athletic performance training to boys and girls of all abilities. The staff includes professionals in sports nutrition, rehabilitation and psychology and the wide range of coaching services is bound to make sure that the football school will become an important part of the community.

Jim Harris from St. Stephen’s shopping centre said, “By offering this £5,000 sponsorship we hope that we can build a long term relationship with GSF with a view to helping the academy grow as well as offering more Football School places for local kids. Similarly, we will be using some of the money to set-up a ‘scholarship fund’ which will make donations to suitable families and individuals to help them both take part in the academy coaching courses.”

Hull BID Manager Ken Baldwin welcomed the development.
He said: “St.Stephen’s has a growing reputation for helping the local community, initiating programmes such as ‘Make £5 Blossom” and organizing events like the Santa Fun Run to raise money for ‘Cash 4 Kids. This initiative is another step in that direction and I look forward to seeing the fruits of this partnership.”

For Gerard Jones this will be adding to his busy schedule. Recently he has been nominated for the ‘
What’s On 4 2010 Awards by parents in Best Local Activity for children aged 5-12’, Enterprising Young Brits Awards 2010, and he has been invited as guest to Yorkshire Forward Innovator of Year 2010 Awards in Leeds and reached Top 20 in world for Queen’s Entrepreneurs Competition.

Not only is Gerard being nominated for numerous awards but he is also rubbing shoulders with top celebrities such as Lord Mandelson. For a 20yr old, full time student he isn’t doing too badly!
