About Hull BID

Hull City Centre BID Ltd is a 'not-for-profit' partnership led by local businesses and hosted by the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce, with support from the public sector including Hull City Council, Humberside Police, Hull Citybuild and Hull College. It is the promoter of the Hull City Centre Business Improvement District (BID). The BID proposal explains how it will carry out projects to meet its objectives.

Hull BID Vision Statement

To make Hull City Centre the destination of choice.

Hull BID Mission Statement

To work for and on the behalf of all businesses within the BID area to promote Hull as a regional City to improve visitors, residents, business and investor experience.

What is a BID?

A Business Improvement District is a defined geographical area Hull City Centre (see map, a full list of premises is printed on the Ballot Paper) in which local businesses and other partners agree to contribute additional funding, controlled by the BID, to make specific improvements over and above the existing statutory services provided by the Local Authority and Police. So BIDs do not replace or subsidise existing services, they enhance them significantly in response to priorities identified by local business.

Why do we need a BID?

We already know that some parts of the City Centre are looking tired, with unsightly vacant units and poor general perceptions of safety and cleanliness. Potential shoppers are being lost to competing towns and cities to the west of Hull. In addition, although significant investment is taking place within the City Centre, creating a period of major change particularly over the next five years, this will put a strain on existing areas by potentially fragmenting the City Centre. A BID will ensure that the whole City Centre is improved and becomes more attractive in a much more powerful and cohesive way than could otherwise be achieved, not only attracting more visitors, but also making it a better place for everyone who works and lives here.
